Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: A review of “Computational Explorations in Cognitive Neuroscience”

چکیده
2 Just like the sequel to a successful movie, O'Reilly and Munakata's " Computational Explorations in Cognitive Neuroscience " aims to follow up and expand on the original 1986 " Parallel Distributed Processing " volumes edited by Computational Explorations: Not only does this volume visit many of the problems and paradigms that the original books were focused on (so making Computational Explorations feel more like a remake than like a sequel), but there also is an instantly recognizable, and clearly " psychological " approach to the role of computational modelling in the cognitive neurosciences. The result is a highly effective, wonderful introduction to the ideas, methods, and problems that characterize this still burgeoning

ModelDB in computational neuroscience education - a research tool as interactive educational media.
ModelDB's mission is to link computational models and publications, supporting the field of computational neuroscience (CNS) by making model source code readily available. It is continually expanding, and currently contains source code for more than 300 models that cover more than 41 topics. Investigators, educators, and students can use it to obtain working models that reproduce published resu...
متن کاملTowards a Computational Model of Why Some Students Learn Faster than Others
Learners that have better metacognition acquire knowledge faster than others who do not. If we had better models of such learning, we would be able to build a better metacognitive educational system. In this paper, we propose a computational model that uses a probabilistic context free grammar induction algorithm yielding metacognitive learning by acquiring deep features to assist future learni...
متن کاملFace processing among twins with and without autism: social correlates and twin concordance.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has a strong heritable basis, as evidenced by twin concordance rates. Within ASD, symptom domains may arise via independent genetic contributions, with varying heritabilities and genetic mechanisms. In this article, we explore social functioning in the form of (i) electrophysiological and behavioral measures of face processing (P1 and N170) and (ii) social behavio...
متن کاملStronger Synaptic Connectivity as a Mechanism behind Development of Working Memory-related Brain Activity during Childhood
The cellular maturational processes behind cognitive development during childhood, including the development of working memory capacity, are still unknown. By using the most standard computational model of visuospatial working memory, we investigated the consequences of cellular maturational processes, including myelination, synaptic strengthening, and synaptic pruning, on working memory-relate...
